HEROES OF AG - Natural and Organic
The restoration of the 1899 Queen Anne Victorian (known as The Davis House) has received county wide support, with the home taking on renewed purpose as the headquarters of local non-profit Monterey County Agricultural Education, Inc. Great progress has been made on the renovations, but with more work necessary to complete the project the Davis House Legacy Committee wanted a different fund raising event. One that was fun, would generate interest and be unique. The Legacy Committee was very successful in developing a distinctive and incomparable undertaking!

HEROES OF AG - Natural and Organic is a 24 month calendar featuring thirty-three agriculturists as few have seen them! This calendar tours the wonders of Monterey County - from oil fields in the south to artichoke fields in the north - while presenting these brave men with the tools of their trade. World renowned photographer Kenneth Cook took on the project with gusto. Ken felt it was important to photograph each model in his own environment; he traveled hundreds of miles for the perfect location. Correct lighting was also a requirement, with photo shoots being set up for sunrise or sunset. The Legacy Committee commends Ken for his enthusiasm and expertise. "The Calendar is a work of art - each photo comes to life."

The project took on a life of its own, as a kernel of an idea grew into a reality. The original concept was a 12 or 14 month calendar, but when the call went out for subjects the response was so generous that a 24 month calendar was created. All of the Calendar Men have been supporters of the organization - and they have proven their dedication to renovation of The Davis House. The Davis House Legacy Committee, chaired by Karen Antle, is extremely grateful to these brave men - they all have a great sense of humour and their personalities are captured in their photos. "THEY ARE OUR HEROES!"
